Being Thankful

Post by shalom-dodi » Wed Nov 22, 2017 2:29 am

For those of us in the USA this Thursday is Thanksgiving. Traditionally it is a time to gather with friends and family and remember with Thanksgiving the things of the past year.
For many that is easy. We can think of so many things to be thankful for.
But for others it may not be so easy to look back over the past year with gratitude.

We are instructed to enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! Psalm 100:4

As His sons and daughters, we are invited to enter His presence at any time. Feeling however we do.

We even, if you think about it, are invited to come to Him when we sin.
Right? To confess, repent and be forgiven?

The key that unlocks the access to the inner court place with God is…ta-daaaaa. Thanksgiving coupled with praise.
But sometimes that is hard. It might be difficult for you tonight due to circumstances of your life.

I read something Sunday that was upsetting in a convicting sort of way. Look at Romans 1:12 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Wow! We can become darkened in heart and foolish in our thinking if we don’t give thanks to God.

Think about it. If we continually focus on the negative things in our lives, the things that are hard, the things which we do not have, what happens? We become gloomy and even depressed. No one even wants to be around us. In fact WE don’t really want to be around ourselves, do we?
We do become darkened in heart and foolish in thinking.

On the other hand, if we do as we are told in Colossians 3:15-17 we will have PEACE.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Being thankful is the key.
What we are going to do tonight is look at some reasons we ALL have to be thankful. No matter what.
We are going to simply read some statement from scripture about who we are. These are ALL causes for thanksgiving.
I will post them in the forum. You may want to copy them and keep them handy for “those days”.
Let’s enter His gates with thanksgiving.
